Algoneurodystrophy is a legacy term historically used to describe a condition now most commonly known as Complex Regional Pain Syndrome (CRPS). CRPS is a chronic pain disorder typically affecting a limb after injury or surgery, characterized by prolonged or excessive pain and changes in skin color, temperature, and swelling. The modern preferred term is Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, which is classified into Type I (without confirmed nerve injury) and Type II (with confirmed nerve injury).
