PBCPrimary Biliary Cirrhosis
📋Overview
Primary Biliary Cholangitis (PBC) is a chronic autoimmune liver disease characterized by progressive destruction of the small intrahepatic bile ducts, leading to cholestasis and potentially cirrhosis. It was formerly known as Primary Biliary Cirrhosis, but the name was changed to better reflect the disease process. PBC primarily affects middle-aged women and involves immune-mediated damage to bile ducts, causing bile buildup and liver injury over time.
